John Richard Burcham, Sr., age 71, of Osseo, Michigan, passed away peacefully under the loving care of his family on October 7, 2024. John was born on October 14, 1952, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, to Harry and Mary (Bradley) Burcham. John is survived by his loving children, John (Sam) Burcham, Jr., Amy (Greg) Spahr, and Dawn (Ron) Layman; eight grandchildren, Carlin (Eva Robinson) Burcham, Hunter Burcham, Tristan (Eva Stoll) Burcham, Devin Spahr, Kelsey Spahr, Alyssa Spahr, Chloe Spahr, and Bryce Spahr; one cherished great-granddaughter Marley Burcham; siblings Dave (Sandy) Burcham, Mike (Karen) Burcham, and Tim (Julie) Burcham; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his beloved wife of 50 years, Wanda Sue Burcham; parents Harry and Mary Burcham. Fishing was more than just a hobby for John; it was a way to connect with nature and the peacefulness that comes with fishing which provided John with comfort and joy. The days he spent on the water represent not only the promise of a good catch but also the opportunity to bond with loved ones who often joined him in these getaways. Woodworking was another of John’s cherished pastimes. Each piece reflected John’s craftsmanship and attention to detail. John’s woodworking was an indication of his dedication and creativity. As a devoted University of Michigan football fan, John wore his colors proudly ready to cheer on his favorite Wolverines. The excitement of game day was a ritual he never missed, a chance to gather with friends and family and celebrate the spirit of togetherness that sports so often bring, which made these days extra special for him. But the most important thing in John’s life was his family. He cherished every moment he spent with them, particularly his grandchildren, whose laughter filled his heart with joy. Whether teaching them how to fish or sharing his woodworking skills, John enjoyed being a constant source of support and guidance. While John enjoyed his hobbies, he also understood the importance of community and connection. His love for beer was an extension of his social nature, providing an avenue to unwind with friends and engage in lively conversations. Whether at home or out with friends, a cold beer in hand was often followed by jokes, laughter, and life’s simple pleasures. Though John has departed this world, the legacy of his love for fishing, woodworking, and Michigan football will continue to echo through the lives he touched. His devotion to family and friends serves as a reminder of the importance of cherishing the moments we have together. In every fish caught, every piece of wood shaped, and every game watched, John’s spirit remains forever. A visitation to honor John’s life will be held at the Hampton Funeral Home (3380 W.
