Van Wert County residents encouraged to help shape economic development priorities

VAN WERT — Van Wert County residents have an opportunity to play an active role in shaping the region’s economic future by participating in the 2025 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Community Survey. The initiative is part of a collaboration between Allen, Hancock, Hardin, Putnam, and Van Wert counties aimed at identifying key priorities for economic growth and positioning northwest Ohio to compete for state and federal funding.

Hazel Gleason – a life well lived

Hazel Gleason was born Oct. 4, 1887 to Lofius Earl and Hettie Noble Gleason. She was their only child. Her great-grandfather, Joseph Gleason (1803-1883) settled in Van Wert in 1837. He and his wife, Harriet Brown Gleason (1811-1888), had seven children; one of their sons, Abram Brown Gleason (1840-1911), known as ‘Honest Abe,’ was Hazel’s grandfather.
