VAN WERT — The YWCA of Van Wert County is proud to announce the successful conclusion of its 30th year of the Summer Food Program, a longstanding initiative focused on combating food insecurity and enriching the lives of local youth during the summer months.
VAN WERT — Van Wert County residents have an opportunity to play an active role in shaping the region’s economic future by participating in the 2025 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Community Survey. Hazel Gleason was born Oct. 4, 1887 to Lofius Earl and Hettie Noble Gleason. She was their only child. Her great-grandfather, Joseph Gleason (1803-1883) settled in Van Wert in 1837. He and his wife, Harriet Brown Gleason (1811-1888), had seven children; one of their sons, Abram Brown Gleason (1840-1911), known as ‘Honest Abe,’ was Hazel’s grandfather.
