City announces street closures for events
VAN WERT — The following upcoming events will cause some street closures in the City of Van Wert:
First Financial Bank completes successful book drive in Paulding, Van Wert
PAULDING – First Financial Bank (Nasdaq: FFBC) teamed up with associates and community members on a successful book drive in May, with 189 books dropped off in bins at the First Financial locations in Paulding and Van Wert, and a grand total of 5,726 books dropped off in First Financial locations in four states. These books will now be donated to local schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations in areas served by the bank.
Convy third-graders receive ROAR awards
Convoy Lions held an awards ceremony in May to award the third-grade classes at Crestview Elementary for working hard in the AR Program. In recognition of their hard work, the ROAR (Reinforcement Of Advanced Reading) pays them 5 cents per point. They must pass a test over the content of the book with a score of 80% or better. Point values for each book are determined by the AR Program. Pictured above are four of the five top point getters this year, Henry Schaffner, Ruby Grant, Landon Sheets and Cameron Lyons. Adam and Zura Named co-presidents of Business Development Corporation of Van Wert
VAN WERT – The Business Development Corporation (BDC) of Van Wert has named Stacy Adam and Sara Zura as its new Co-Presidents, following the leadership of Andy Czajkowski and Pat Ryan.
Miller pursues Native American view of Battle of Little Big Horn
David Humphreys Miller was born to Lewis Carl Miller (1883-1956) and Edna Humphreys (1887-1981) on June 8, 1918, in New York. Both Lew and Edna were accomplished artists. The Millers built their home at 745 S. Washington St., where they resided for many years and pursued their interest in art with the Wassenbergs.

ROCKFORD – The Rockford Chamber of Commerce and Village of Rockford have announced the Tastee Twirl Rockford is under new ownership with the Luginbill family. A Grand Opening was held on June 6.

Van Wert Civic Theatre Celebrates 2024–25 season with Annual Awards Banquet
VAN WERT — The Van Wert Civic Theatre launched its 2025–26 season by honoring the outstanding work of its performers, directors, designers, and volunteers at the Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. The evening was a celebration of the community’s talent, creativity and commitment to the arts.

COLUMBUS — Van Wert senior Owen Scott closed the book on a standout high school career Saturday, stepping onto the track at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium for the final time at the Division II State Track and Field Championships.
