COLUMBUS — NFIB’s August jobs report found that 40% (seasonally adjusted) of small business owners reported job openings they could not fill in August, up two points from July. Labor quality as the top small business operating problem rose two points from July to 21%, the highest level reported since January of this year.

PORT CLINTON, Ohio – The Portage River Fishing Access will close for a resurfacing project Monday, Sept. 9 to Friday, Sept. 13, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The area will re-open the following weekend.

COLUMBUS – In recognition of National Recovery Month, RecoveryOhio and the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Divisions of Liquor Control and Cannabis Control are encouraging Ohioans who may be struggling with addiction to alcohol and controlled substances to take advantage of available resources for treatment.

VANWERT—TheVanWertFireDepartment was called to a tree house fire in the 200 block of South Vine Street at 9:13 p.m. Thursday night. Firefighters found the tree house fully engulfed, but they quickly got the flames under control, preventing it from spreading to a nearby structure. Firefighters were on the scene for a little over an hour. Assisting was the Van Wert City Police Department.

COLUMBUS — As schools return to session across the state, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued a memo to superintendents reminding them of the many ways in which the state can assist with school safety.

VAN WERT COUNTY — Van Wert Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks have announced the awarding of a $4,000 Legacy Award Scholarship by the Elks National Foundation to Sarah Verville. The Legacy Award Scholarships are awarded by the Elks National Foundation and are only available to children and grandchildren of Elk Members. Sarah graduated this spring from Van Wert High School.

COLUMBUS — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine delivered welcoming remarks for Ohio’s 2024 Kids Summit on Thursday. Hosted for the first time by the new Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY), in collaboration with the Ohio Supreme Court, the Kids Summit brought together county leaders from across the state representing children services, the judicial system, law enforcement, parent and family advocates, social workers, and more to learn about DCY: the new agency created last year by Governor DeWine to streamline systems that support children and families.
