Hazel Gleason – a life well lived

Hazel Gleason was born Oct. 4, 1887 to Lofius Earl and Hettie Noble Gleason. She was their only child. Her great-grandfather, Joseph Gleason (1803-1883) settled in Van Wert in 1837. He and his wife, Harriet Brown Gleason (1811-1888), had seven children; one of their sons, Abram Brown Gleason (1840-1911), known as ‘Honest Abe,’ was Hazel’s grandfather.

Thornell completes Weights and Measures training

Van Wert County Auditor Jami Bradford is proud to announce that Chad Thornell has successfully completed a certified training program in Weights and Measures, earning a Certificate of Training from Ohio Department of Agriculture Division of Weight & Measures. Thornell will assume the role of Weights and Measures Inspector for both Van Wert and Paulding Counties. Thornell has replaced Donald Stemen who retired in January 2025. (Photo submitted)
