7:05 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Willshire Eastern Road in Willshire Township for a motor vehicle crash. A 2012 Ford F250, driven by Chase Matthew Stanler of Berne, Indiana, was traveling east on Willshire Eastern Road near Clayton Road. The F250 crossed the opposite lane of travel, went off the left side of the roadway, hit a utility pole, corrected back onto the roadway and came to rest. The airbags deployed and the vehicle suffered disabling damage. Neither of the occupants were injured.

11:21 a.m. – Dispatched the Convoy marshal to an area of Franklin Street in the Village of Convoy for a complaint of an ATV being driving on village streets.
CONVOY—Convoy Village Council met Thursday, August 8 in what was billed as a “public informational meeting”. The first order of business was to go into a 20-minute-long executive session.
VAN WERT COUNTY — With the 2024 Van Wert County Fair quickly approaching, the Junior Fair Coronation Committee has announced this year’s candidates for King, Queen, Species, and Project Prince or Princess, with a record-breaking 22 candidates.
MIDDLE POINT—A Grand Opening Celebration was held at Lincolnview Schools on Sunday to showcase the completed renovations to the school, particularly Phase II of the $5 million construction project. The price tag of Phase II was around $3.8 million.
VAN WERT—The total cost of repairing a water main break on North Washington Street will be thousands of dollars. Van Wert City Council at their Monday, August 12 meeting, heard from Safety Service Director Jay Fleming about what led to the break and the challenges crews faced in keeping the city from running out of water.
Fred Tumbleson, 81, of Convoy, was reunited with his wife, Sandra, in heaven on Sunday, June 23, 2024. He was born October 6, 1942, in Decatur, Indiana, to Jesse and Mamie (Cully)Tumbleson. A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the Convoy Fox Hunter’s, starting at 5:00pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, 722 S. Washington St, Van Wert, Ohio.
Gene P. Goodwin, 88, of Van Wert, Ohio, died at 8:50am on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Van Wert Manor. Services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, with Rev. William Haggis II, officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, where military graveside services will be rendered by the Van Wert American Legion and V.F.W. units. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30am on the day of the service, at the funeral home. A complete obituary will be run closer to service time.
