MIDDLE POINT - Last year's Van Wert County track meet saw plenty of records fall. On Tuesday, Lauren Taylor was the meet's only record breaker, topping her own time in the 3200 meter run. While the majority of the meet's record book stayed put, another area that remained unchanged were the final results.

The Van Wert boys won the meet with 72 2/3 points while the Lady Cougars - who tied Lincolnview for the meet title a season ago - easily outdistanced themselves from the Lady Lancers with a score of 75. The Crestview boys finished second with 53 1/3 points while the Lancers were third with 49. In the girls meet, Lincolnview scored 56 while Crestview finished with 43.

Taylor won both the 3200m as well as the 1600m but was most pleased with the Lady Cougars' 4x800 meter relay team that also took home gold.

"I'm really excited for the 4x8, because the girls, they're pretty strong this year," Taylor said. "I'm just excited to see where that will go. See how the girls' times and splits go."

On Tuesday, the Van Wert 4x800m team had no problem winning the event with a time of 11:31.56. Lincolnview finished in second with a time of 11:45.60. As for Taylor, her 11:47.55 was enough to set the new meet record in the 3200m while her 1600m time of 5:30 was also golden. She wasn't alone in those races either though, as Van Wert's Katie Bono placed second in the 3200m (13:00.43) and Erica Davis was runner-up in the 1600m (6:06).

"It was exciting to see Katie Bono come in second, because she's worked really hard this season," Taylor said.

Outside of the 4x800m, Crestview dominated the girls' relay scene. Crestview took home wins in the 4x200m (1:58.4), the 4x100m (55.6) and the 4x400m (4:33.5).

"We've been really working hard to keep our time down," said Jo Thompson, Crestview's 4x400m relay anchor. "We actually dropped 15 seconds off our time, so we we're all pretty pumped."

Van Wert placed second in both the 4x200m (1:59.88) and the 4x100m (56.31) while Lincolnview took second in the 4x400m (4:37.87).

While being a part of Crestview's relay success, Thompson also found success of her own, winning the 400m (1:04.25) and placing second in the both the 100m (14.4) and 200m (28.38). She also found a bit of a rival in Lincolnview's Casey Patterson. Patterson won the 200m (28.29), the long jump (14-feet-2) and took second in the 400m (1:06.63). Patterson also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m for the Lady Lancers.

In the hurdles, Van Wert took first in both the 100m and 300m as Madison Moonshower won the shorter distance (17.13) and Ashley Mohr won the 300m (51.54). Mohr also took second in the 100m hurdles (18.40) while Lincolnview's Mary Smith was second in the 300m hurdles (53.52). Elsewhere on the track, Davis backed up her second-place finish in the 1600m run with a win in the 800m (2:44). Lincolnview's Brittany Katalenas placed second (2:48). Fellow Lady Lancer, Calista Dowdy, won the 100m with a time of 14.27.

In the field, Van Wert's Nicole Liatos was a double winner, taking both the shot put (29-8) and discus titles (91-4 1/2). She was not the only Cougar to take double gold in the field though as Natalie Hood won both the pole vault (8-0) and the high jump (4-10).

Lincolnview's Audrey Bowen was second in the shot put (29-6) while Crestview's Mimi Gilbert took silver in the discus (85-9 1/2). Fellow Lady Lancer Ashley Dominique placed second in the pole vault, clearing 6-0. Crestview's Rachael Hall placed second in the high jump while Van Wert's Kandace Stanski was the runner-up in the long jump (14-2).

In the boys competition it was Lincolnview's Kirk Bonifas that stole the show. Bonifas won both the 300m hurdles (43.09) and held off a surging Tim Hoverman to claim the 110m hurdles crown. Bonifas' time of 16.77 just edged Van Wert's Hoverman's 16.8. Crestview's Zach Merkle placed second in the 300m hurdles (44.70).

"It just feels really good," Bonifas said of winning both hurdles events. "It was basically my goal all year. I felt good today."

Another person feeling really good on Tuesday was Van Wert's Kenton Holliday. Holliday won both the 1600m (4:46) and the 3200m (10:40.28).

Van Wert's relay teams also had strong outings as the Cougars swept all four of those events. The Scarlet and Gray won the 4x800m with a time of 9:17.26, the 4x200m with a 1:36.27, the 4x100m with a finish of 45.53 and clocked in with a 3:47.63 in the 4x400m. Crestview placed second in three of those four events, running a 9:26.19 in the 4x800m, a 1:38.70 in the 4x200m and a 48.10 in the 4x100m. Crestview took second in the 4x400m with a time of 3:51.16.

Van Wert's Connor Massillo was a main piece in a few of those relay wins. He also took first place in the 100m (11.90). The same story is true for teammate Kirtis Calvelage who took home the gold in the 200m (23.9). Crestview's Ryan Ramey placed second in both of those events, running a 12.0 in the 100m and a 24.51 in the 200m. Van Wert also took home gold in the 400m as Blake Davis won the event in a time of 55.50. Lincolnview's Jordan Simpson was second in the 400m at 57.03.

Crestview's Matt Bittner won the 800m with a time of 2:10 and placed second in the 1600m with a 4:54. Van Wert's Brian Easley was second in the 800m (2:11) while Lincolnview's Seth Wisener took second in the 3200m (11:03.70).

In the field, Van Wert's Ross Thatcher won both of the throwing titles, winning the shot put with a heave of 44-9 1/2 and the discus with a throw of 126-8. Lincolnview's Jared Runyon was second in the discus (120-2 1/2) and Crestview's Chase Walters was the runner-up in the shot (37-7 1/2).

Walters' second-place finish in the shot was just the tip of the iceberg for the Knights in the field as they won three other events. Tyler Torrey provided the Red, White and Blue with a first-place finish in the long jump (17-8) while Rob Cook was first in the high jump (5-8) and Aaron Grose took the top spot in the pole vault (9-0). Lincolnview's Simpson was second in both the long jump (17-1 1/4) and the high jump (5-8) and fellow Lancer Mac King was the runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 8-6.
