VAN WERT - The Van Wert Cougars dropped a six-inning, rain-shortened outing to the Coldwater Cavaliers 10-1 Monday evening at Smiley Park in Van Wert.
Brock Thatcher went five innings allowing eight runs (three earned) on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Brock Bell pitched the final inning for the Cougars allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk.
As a team the Cougars collected five hits with Bell connecting for two and Thatcher for one. Brady Dunlap and Craig Thomas each collected hits with Thomas driving in the Cougars' lone run.
The Cougars are now 6-12 on the season.
Monday's loss comes right after a doubleheader split this weekend.
On Saturday the Cougars fell to Montpelier 13-8 while beating Antwerp 11-1 in six innings.
In the loss Brady Dunlap went 3-for-4 while Thomas and Jordan Scheidt both went 2-for-4.
Tyler Putnam picked up the loss, allowing six runs in the first inning. Brady Dunlap came on in relief to go 3.2 innings allowing five runs (three earned) with six walks and two strikeouts. Thatcher went the final 2.1 innings allowing two earned runs.
In Game 2, against Antwerp, Austin Anderson went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI while Malachi Murphy, Karlin Dunlap and Thomas had two hits each.
Bell picked up the win going five innings allowing the one earned run on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
