VAN WERT – The Van Wert girls and boys bowling teams hosted the Elida Bulldogs at Olympic Lanes on Thursday.

The Van Wert girls varsity and jr. varsity bowling teams came away with two wins. In the varsity match the final score was 2318-1744.

The 2318 score is the team high series on the season. In the 4th Baker team game the Lady Cougars bowled a new record score of 222 breaking the 14 year old record of 220. Top scores came from Allison Hauter (155, 156), Kaylee McPhail (167) and Lorrie Decker (192, 186). The varsity girls improve to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the WBL.

The jv girls final score was 1858-1037. Top scores came from Ashely Matthews (157, 197), Kayla Papke (136) and Hanna Say (133). The jv overall record stands at 3-2 and 2-2 in the WBL.

They both will be back in action Saturday. The varsity girls opponent will be Lima Senior in Ottawa at Highland Lanes the jv squad will be in St. Marys bowling at Varsity Lanes against Lima Senior.

In boys bowling action the Van Wert varsity boys defeated the Elida Bulldogs 2796-2424.

High scores of the day were Ian Ellis (214, 242), Nathan Bidlack (195, 248), Derek Fanning (193), Gavin Barnes and Steele Stabler (161). Also contributing to the team was Troy Weaks.

Van Wert jv boys defeated the Bulldogs 2192-1905.

High scores of the day were Collin Mosier (203, 214), Zachary Stevens (170), Jose Agular (161) and also contributing to the team were Sam Cassidy, Nicholus McPhail and Dante Jones.

Varsity boys will bowl at Ottawa Highland Lanes in Ottawa on Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. Van Wert will be facing Wapakoneta.

Jv will bowl at Varsity Lanes in St. Marys on Dec. 30 at 9:45 a.m. Van Wert will be facing Celina.
