MIDDLE POINT - After a tight first half, Ottoville went on a 23-0 second half run to pull away for a 47-23 win over Lincolnview Saturday afternoon. The Lady Green are now 3-0. The Lady Lancers are 1-1.

Lancer coach Dan Williamson expressed the lament of many coaches after facing Ottoville. "I was extremely pleased with how we handled their pressure in the first half, especially in the full court, because they're so good with their press, but they just wear you down," said Williamson. "They've got so many kids that they can throw in defensively that do a lot of the same things."

Lincolnview shot out to a 7-2 lead halfway through the first quarter, but Ottoville inched back into it and took an 11-9 lead at the break via a buzzer-beating corner 3-pointer from lefty Kasey Knippen.

The Lady Green scored the first six points of the second quarter to lead 17-9 at the 3:52 mark, but then lefty Olivia Gorman swished a corner three, and Maddie Gorman canned an elbow jumper to get the Lancers within 17-14. It was 19-14 at the half, the low score reflecting the very deliberate pace employed effectively by Lincolnview.

"Our halftime speech was more possession on offense," said Ottoville coach Dave Kleman. "It's two points at a time, one possession at a time, get the ball reversed, get good looks -- and that's what we did in the second half. Defensively, I wasn't upset in the first half. They (the Lancers) did a good job of controlling the ball."

Kayla Schimmoeller started the third quarter by driving the baseline for a layup to put the Lancers within three at 19-16, but it would be a long time before the home team enjoyed another highlight. Lincolnview turnovers began to pile up, and Ottoville scored the next 23 points to lead 42-16 with 3:18 left in the game.

Ottoville outshot Lincolnview from the field 54 percent (19 of 35) to 29 percent (10 of 34). The Lady Green were 3 for 8 from long range, the Lancers 2 for 5. Ottoville was 6 for 6 from the line, while Lincolnview didn't even shoot one until the last second of the game, making 1 of 2. The Lancers won the boards 19-13, but the Green had fewer turnovers, 9-18.

Bridget Landin and Kasey Knippen had 12 points apiece for Ottoville. Alena Looser led Lincolnview with 7.

"We just didn't execute quite as well in the second half offensively," said Williamson. "I thought defensively it was still the same. You're not gonna hold them to 19 points in a half many times. We played very deliberate; we wanted to make them guard us for extended time periods. We didn't want to give them 50-60 possessions, because they're gonna score on a lot of them. We wanted to try to limit their possessions to the 30's."

The Lancer jayvees (2-0) pulled off an upset, 43-36. They were led in scoring by Jordan Decker, Brianna Ebel, and Sierra Adams with 14, 9, and 9. The Lady Green (2-1) were led by Alexa Honigford and Josie Geise with 13 and 11.
