DEFIANCE — The 2014 Western Buckeye League swimming and diving championships were held at Defiance YMCA on Wednesday and the Van Wert boys placed fifth in a typically strong WBL field. The Lady Cougars finished ninth. Ottawa-Glandorf claimed the girls league title while Celina won the boys championship.
Van Wert senior Eric Easley captured the 200-yard IM for the second straight year, doing so with a time of 2:06.01. Easley had set the meet record in 2013 with a 2:05.35 mark.
Easley also claimed victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning with a time of 1:03.49, which was three-and-a-half seconds faster than his runner-up.
It wasn’t all good news for Easley, however. In the 200-yard medley relay race, Van Wert’s team was disqualified when Easley took off too soon.
