VAN WERT — The YMCA of Van Wert County is partnering with the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants for Van Wert YMCA Mad Ants Night on Saturday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Coliseum.
Those who buy tickets for this game through the Y or by calling Garrett Martz at the Mad Ants Office at (260) 469-4667, ext. 107 will get discounted tickets - $8.00 for Upper Level Sideline and $15.00 for lower level; and a FREE basketball clinic with the Mad Ants players and coaches on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 6-7 p.m. at the YMCA of Van Wert County. A portion of each ticket sold will also be contributed back to the Van Wert YMCA.
The free basketball clinic for those who buy tickets will be held for ages 4 – 12 from 6-7 p.m. on January 29. The Mad Ants coaching staff and players will run Y-ball players through a series of basketball drills and be available for autographs and pictures afterward.
The star player from the Mad Ants that will be running the clinic is Tony Mitchell.
Mitchell, a 6-6 forward out of Alabama, was a key player for the Mad Ants during the 2012-13 season averaging 21.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals over 48 regular season games with the team. He recorded his career high 49 points in a 125-112 win against the Sioux Falls Skyforce on April 5, 2013.
Following the 2012-13 season, Mitchell was named to the All D-League first team, All-Rookie first team and was named the 2013 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year. He earned a spot on the 2013 NBA D-League All-Star team and was named Slam Dunk Champion during the 2013 NBA D-League All-Star Weekend.
