ROCKFORD — Parkway senior Sierra Fent and her Lady Panther teammates played host in the Division III sectional final on Saturday, and needed only six innings to eliminate Kenton, winning 10-0.
Fent allowed just one hit to the Lady Wildcats. Parkway moves on to face Ottawa-Glandorf in the district semi-finals at Bath High School in Lima on Wednesday evening.
Not only did Fent keep the Wildcats off the noard, but she opened the Parkway scoring herself in the bottom of the second.
Fent got a 2-0 fastball and crushed it over the right-center field fence to put the Panthers up 1-0. Later on in the frame, Terra Walls singled and stole second with two outs. Zoey Pond followed with an RBI single, and she proceeded to steal her way into scoring position as well, from where Serina Siano was able to drive her home.

Parkway added two more runs in the bottom of the third as Fent walked and Kayle Heckler doubled to put runners on second and third with two outs. Ashlynn Henderson then came up with a clutch 2-run single to extend the Panther lead to 5-0.
“The best thing today was our two-out hitting I think we got five of our RBIs with two outs. And that is a good sign,” Parkway coach Mark Esselstein noted.
Parkway tacked on one run in the fourth and another in the fifth to give them a 7-0 lead. The Lady Panthers then closed the game with a 3-run rally in the sixth, highlighted by Selena Burch’s 2-run single.
Fent yielded just four basreunners in the game, with Kenton’s only hit a bloop single to shallow left by CJ Clum in the second.
“She (Fent) has been throwing really well of late and if we could have gotten an out on the pop-up in the second inning, she would have had a no-hitter going,” Esselstein lamented. “When she gets going like that, we just need to get a little bit of offense going.”
