HARROD — The top two teams in the Northwest Conference met up on Thursday night with Crestview’s Lady Knights taking a 61-42 victory over Allen East.
Allen East took a 7-6 lead when Carly Clum sunk a corner 3-pointer mid-way through the first stanza.
Crestview went on a 7-2 run to end the first period getting five points from Lindsey Motycka, the last of which being a three-point play the old-fashioned way to make the score going into the second period 13-9, Lady Knights.
After Kennis Mercer gave the Lady Knights a 17-11 lead, Allen East quickly countered with a trey from London Richardson to cut the Crestview lead in half. Unfortunately for the Lady Mustangs, the Crestview defense put the clamps down.

The Lady Knights increasd their lead to double digits with a 10-0 run, getting four points from Motycka and a basket from Mackenzie Riggenbach to make the score 27-14.
Allen East got a layup from Kaycee Rowe and one foul shot from Clum to send the teams into the locker rooms with the score 27-17, Lady Knights.
Crestview came out of the locker room on fire as Riggenbach drained two 3-pointers sandwiched around a Lady Mustang layup to increase the Crestview lead to 33-19.
Allen East was able to work the Crestview lead down to 10 by getting four points from Conkle and a 3-pointer from Lindsi Woods to make it 39-29 at the end of three quarters.
The teams exchanged 3-pointers to start the final period as Terra Crowle sunk one for Crestview and Richardson dialed one up from long distance for Allen East.
The Lady Mustangs pulled to within seven mid-way through the final period, thanks to another 3-pointer from Woods and a layup from Clum.
Crestview responded, however, with four points from Emily Bauer and four from Motycka to push the margin back to 15 and used free throws to salt away the win.
The Lady Knights got a big game from Lindsey Motycka, who led all scorers with 19 points. Her teammates Bauer and Riggenbach each added 14 points for Crestview. Allen East had one girl in double figures as Kaycee Rowe had 10 points on the night. London Richardson added nine points and Carly Crum contributed eight points.
“We were just afraid we wouldn’t be able to take away their penetration and a lot of their offensive sets, so we decided we were going to go zone. We still wanted to cover people on the perimeter, and at times we didn’t get hands out there. They have some very good shooters out there. The zone we were thinking would slow them down a little bit, and you are banking they wouldn’t have a good night from three and, obviously, they made a few but not enough,” said Crestview coach Greg Rickard.
“I thought from wire to wire we played pretty well. We had some lapses defensively, but we took care of the ball, we didn’t turn it over, we got good shots and we rebounded well. For us this was an all-around good game,” commented Rickard.
With the win on Thursday night, Crestview remains undefeated in NWC play and improves to 17-1 on the year. Allen East drops to 13-5 on the season and now has one loss in conference play.
