CELINA — Crestview’s Lady Knights dominated a pair of games during quad play at Celina’s Eastview Park on Saturday. After blanking the host Lady Bulldogs by a 9-0 final, Crestview went on to punish Fort Recovery 18-0 in a five-inning run-rule affair.
Senior Kirstin Hicks went the distance in the opener for the Lady Knights, allowing just four hits while striking out four in the victory.
After a quiet opening inning, the Lady Knights put together a five-hit, five run attack in the second. At one point in the frame, Crestview saw four consecutive hitters reach via base-hit, will Courtney Grote, Tianna Rager, Cora Millay and Lauren Schmid all singling.
From that point on, the game was never in doubt. Brady Guest added a double as a part of a two-run seventh inning for the Knights, helping to expand the lead.

“The thing that we have struggled with the last couple of games has been our defense. We had a couple little defense moves (on Friday) against Spencerville and defensively, today, I thought we played really well.,” noted Lady Knight coach Carl Etzler. “Offensively, we were able to do some of the things that we like to do, some running, and put some pressure on the defense.”
If the first game was one-sided, the second game was a rout.
Crestview opened the scoring with five runs in the first inning against Fort Recovery, using doubles by Terra Crowle and Nicole McClure to spark the rally. Four straight Crestview batters including Hicks, Crowle, Mackenzie Riggenbach and Millay got RBIs in the first inning.
In the top of the second frame, Riggenbach struck again, driving in her second run of the game with a triple to make it 7-0, Crestview.
The Lady Knights were just getting warmed up.
The top of the third inning was a huge seven-run frame for the Lady Knights. Hicks and Riggenbach each doubled in the inning, each shot driving in a pair of runs while McClure added a run-scoring single.
The Lady Knights continued to dominate in the circle in game two, with Grote tossing the five-inning shutout against the Lady Indians. The senior allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out four in the contest.
The final four runs came in the fifth for the Lady Knights, highlighted by a run-scoring single by Brooke Bowen and a bases-loaded walk from Crowle that forced in another run.
Grote put an exclamation mark on the afternoon with a strikeout of the game’s final hitter, icing the combined 27-0 sweep of the two games.
The Lady Knights improve to 6-5 on the season were as the Lady Bulldogs drop to 4-5 on the season and Fort Recovery goes to 0-8 on the year.
“I thought, the second win, we were able to put the ball in play a lot more, and as well as we have all year. Again, I thought we were defensively back to where we need to be,” Etzler added. “We still have some work to do. The girls have got the confidence back and know the defense is now starting to say ‘hit me the ball’ whereas in the past they weren’t.”
