OAK HARBOR — The Van Wert varsity track teams competed in the ten-team Oak Harbor Invitational on Saturday. The action saw the boys claim the runner-up trophy, behind team champion Eastwood. The boys scored 97 pts. The girls finished fourth out the 10 teams with 84.5 pts. Perrysburg was the team champion for the girls.
The boys meet was highlighted by Nicholas Krugh winning the 100 Meters (11.27) and the 200 Meters (22.94). Nick was also part of the winning 4X200 meter relay, teaming up with Kris Hart, Terrence Branson, and Quincey Salcido with a time of 1:32.00. Runner-up finishes were recorded by Salcido in the 400 (52.74), Connor Holliday in the 1600 (4:38.43), and the 4X400 relay (3:29.26) team of Salcido, Tymon Moore, Henter Perl, and Krugh.
The highlight of the girls meet was a school and meet record run by the girls 4X400 relay, and Amanda Clay once more winning the Outstanding Female Athlete of the meet. The relay team consisted of Whitney Meyers, Alicia Danylchuk, Emma Kohn, and Clay, as they recorded a time of 4:08.63 to set the new standards. Clay proceeded the relay with three first-place finishes, including the 100 (12.85), 400 (59.73), and the Long Jump (17’5.5”) to claim the outstanding athlete award. Claiming a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles (48.61) was Whitney Meyers.
Meanwhile, Van Wert’s middle school track teams competed at the Western Buckeye League Invitational at Shawnee this past weekedn, witbn the girls squad claiming first place to remain undefeated on the season at 29-0. The boys placed third in the meet and are now 22-7.
