VAN WERT - The Van Wert Elks Lodge hosted its annual Hoop Shoot competition this past Saturday at the Goedde Building gymnasium. Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Lee's Ace Hardware, Pizza Hut, Lee Kinstle GM Sales and Service and Laudick's Jewelry, all contestants received a free t-shirt and Hoop Shoot medal. The top three finishers in each division also received trophies for their efforts.
The boys started off the competition by shooting first Saturday. In the boys 8 and 9 year old division Preston Kreischer was the champion with 16 free throws made. Isaac Kline finished in 2nd place with 14 shots made, and Luke Bollenbacher finished in third place with nine shots made.
In the 10 and 11 year old division, Landon Price took first place making 20 buckets while Ethan Mooney finished 2nd with 15 shots made, and Carson Kreischer was 3rd with 12 buckets.Wade Sheets won the 12-13 year old division by making 20 free throws. Drew Kline came in 2nd with a score of 17, and Spencer Adams finished in 3rd place by sinking 12 shots.
In the girls competition, the 8 and 9 year old division was won by Laci McCoy as she sank an impressive 13 free throws as the lone contestant in her age group.
The 10-11 year old competition was dominated by Kendall Bollenbacher with 12 shots made while Carlee Young and Kayla Krites finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Avery McCoy took the 12 and 13 year old division's championship trophy home by sinking 16 shots. Aubrie Friemoth finished as the runner up with 12 buckets made and Hannah Will finished in 3rd by making nine shots.
The champions in each division will compete in the district Hoop Shoot competition to be held at Croy Gymnasium at Findlay University on January 12th.
