VAN WERT — The Van Wert Cougars continued a dominant start to the boys tennis season and moved to 3-0 on the year with a 4-1 win over the St. Marys Roughriders in Western Buckeye League play on Friday afternoon. All three wins have come in WBL play.
Sophomore Lane Mansfield set the tone for the Cougars with a first singles win at 6-0, 6-0. Junior Erik Yeung and sophomore Brandon Amstutz also won their singles matches, with Yeung posting a 6-1, 6-2 win and Amstutz winning 6-2, 6-2.
Eli Alvarez and Nick Etter claimed a victory in first doubles, winning their match 6-2, 6-2, but the Cougars couldn’t complete the sweep as Gabe Rollins and Kory Schlatter were defeated in second singles, losing by a 6-4, 6-3 score.
The Cougars will visit the Collett Street Courts in Lima on Saturday as they compete in the Lima Invitational.
