HAVILAND — Celina’s Lady Bulldogs visited Wayne Trace on Friday night and took an early 2-0 lead, but the Raiders stormed back and ultimately secured a 3-2 win.
Wayne Trace wasted no time getting in the hit column as Brenda Feasby and Libby Stabler both got one out singles to put Celina hurler Melody Donovan’s feet to the fire. Donovan got the next two Wayne Trace batters out.
The Lady Raiders got a terrific first three innings from Addie Baumle as she struck out five of the first nine Lady Bulldog batters.
In the top of the fourth, Celina got two straight singles from Stephanie Walter and Kaity Kuhn to start the frame. Two outs later, Alexis Zacharias singled home both Walter and Kuhn to give here Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Baumle took that inning personally, it would appear. In the top of the fifth, she struck out the side in order.
In the bottom of the inning, Emilie Linder walked and Stabler single to put runners on the corner for Bailey Bergman. Bergman put up three huge RBI as she drilled a ball over the left field fence to give Wayne Trace a 3-2 lead.
Celina looked to get the run back in the top of the sixth as Kuhn doubled to lead off the inning, but Baumle induced a ground out and two fly balls to stomp out the threat.
Baumle took the rubber to start the seventh, struck out the first two Celina batters and retired the next batter on an easy comebacker put out.
“ It was a good win for us for us, being division four against a division two team. Just a great win for us, and that’s what we wanted going into tournament. We had three division two teams coming in this week, and to come out 2-1 just makes it a great week for us,” said Wayne Trace coach Jack Baumle.
The Lady Raiders improve their overall record to 15-7 on the year while the Lady Bulldogs drop to 11-12.
