VAN WERT, Ohio — William “Bill” A. Wolverton, 91, of Van Wert, formerly of Montpelier, Indiana, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Community Health Professionals in Van Wert.

He was born on Saturday, March 24, 1923, in Montpelier, Indiana.

He married Patricia Cary on Friday, Aug. 25, 1944, in Ft. Lewis, Washington.

Bill graduated from Montpelier High School in 1941. He retired from Indiana Corrugated in Warren, Indiana. He was a member of the Millard-Brown American Legion Post 156 of Montpelier, Indiana, and was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army.

He has been a past commander of Post 156, past 4th district commander, past department vice commander, past department membership chairman, member of the Anavicus, Jay Blackford 40-8 Voiture 988, past Chef DeGabe, former member of the Montpelier Volunteer Fire Department and the Elks Lodge of Hartford City, Indiana.

Bill and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Winter Haven, Florida, and had been doing so since 1992. He had been a lifetime Blackford County resident until moving to Van Wert three years ago. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church in Montpelier, Indiana. He will always be remembered for his good sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and entire community.

Survivors include his wife: Patricia (Cary) Wolverton of Van Wert; son: William R. (wife, Nancy) Wolverton of Van Wert; granddaughters: Nicole D. (husband, Brian) Milek of Canton, Ohio, and Kimberly R. (husband, Kevin) Fessenden of Milford, Ohio; grandson: Reed T. Wolverton of Van Wert, and great-granddaughters: Lya Milek and Kathryn Milek, both of Canton; great-grandson: Weston Milek of Canton, and great-granddaughters: Amelia Milek of Canton and Isabella Fessenden of Milford.

He was preceded in death by his father: Abner Wolverton and mother: Elsie M. (Hoskins) Hawk.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier, Indiana, on Saturday, June 28, 2014, from 1 to 4 p.m.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014, with Pastor Bob Allen officiating. Interment will follow in the Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Millard Brown American Legion Post 156.
