CONVOY, Ohio — Vincent L. Smith of Convoy died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at his residence.
He was born May 30, 1940, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to the late Opal (Lyon) Smith and Charles Smith.
His wife, Dianna (Hill) Smith, is deceased.
Survivors include children: Dawndee (Ken) Smith-Joyce of Chapin,
South Carolina, Julie (Richard) Smith of Van Wert, Ohio, Vincent L.
(Jessica) Smith, Jr. of Elkhart, Indiana, and Dr. Anthony Smith of
Columbus, Ohio, a sister: Mary Christine (Kip) Mohr of Stow, Ohio, and
grandchildren: Mimi Gilbert, Jalyn Smith, Claire Smith, Emma Smith.
was a retired barber from Decatur, Indiana. He had also retired from
Sunoco in Van Wert. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Convoy. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in Vietnam, a
member of Van Wert American Legion (transferred his membership from
Decatur, Indiana), and had coached baseball in Wren, Ohio, for many
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July
9, 2014 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. Ray
Etzler will officiate. Burial will be in Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery,
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert American Legion 40 et 8 Nursing Scholarship Fund.
