OHIO CITY, Ohio — Roberta J. “Berta” Witte, 54, of Ohio City, Van Wert County, died at 4:08 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

She was born Sept. 24, 1959, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Ivan Charles Eckhart and Jessie Marie (Cousino) Eckhart.

She married to Robert “Rob” Witte on May 18, 1991.


 

She attended Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur. She was a self-employed housekeeper and had formerly been employed by Golden Meadows Home in Decatur.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She loved the outdoors and gardening and spending time at NASCAR races with her husband. She loved driving her 1967 Camaro convertible and motorcycle riding.

Survivors include her husband: Rob Witte of Ohio City; children: Jim (Stephanie) Eckhart of Beebe, Ark., Doneyelle (Justin) Taylor of Fort Wayne, Ind., Starr (Adam) Bell of Decatur, Ind., and Robert (Tesh) Thompson – Witte of Monroe, Ind.; siblings: Margaret Lockwood and Darlene (Jay) Bowman, both of LaSalle, Mich., Karen (Al) Lawson of Payne, Ohio, Jackie (Bill) Alberding, Chuck (Sue) Eckhart and Elaine (Tom) Hall, all of Decatur, Tim (Donna) Eckhart of Vera Cruz, Ind., Joe (Deb) Eckhart of Convoy, and Patti Smeal of Decatur, her father and mother-in-law: Herman and Joyce Witte of Decatur, and 11 grandchildren: Eric Eckhart, Jessie Eckhart, Jaycee Taylor, Jax Taylor, MaCenzie Thompson-Witte, Seth Thompson-Witte, Chase Thompson-Witte, Aeriana Bell, Brad Bell, Braiden Bell, and Allie Bell.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Eckhart.

Services will be held at noon Saturday, May 3, 2014, in the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur. The Rev. Philip Phifer will officiate. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Preferred memorial is Zion Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
