HOLLAND, Mich. — Paul Eugene Bodkins, 89, of Holland, died Friday, May 23, 2014, at Hospice House of Holland.

He was born March 8, 1925, in Delphos, Ohio, to Harold and Marie Bodkins.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edie; sons Mike (Jane) Bodkins, Brad (Linda) Bodkins; two grandchildren: Ann Klamer and Jeff (Emily) Bodkins; three great-grandchildren; Bryce and Lexi Klamer and Kalin Bodkins.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kelly Green Bodkins, and granddaughter, Ivy Green Bodkins.

Paul was a scholar athlete and graduate of Van Wert High School, class of 1943. He was also a proud WWII veteran. His legacy is that of a father and community leader who mentored and inspired youth involved in sporting activities. He was a gifted athlete who excelled in sharing his love for the game and inspiring others to be their best. His interests and talents were many, including bowling, fishing and raising Brittanies.

He truly loved his years in Florida (Golf Lakes Estates) and became an icon on the dance floor. Paul will always be remembered as one who lived life with a zeal, an energy, and a competitive spirit that was undeniable and refreshing.

He was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert and attended Christ Memorial in Holland.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at Christ Memorial Chapel, 595 Graafschap Road in Holland. The Rev. Bill Boersma will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland.
