ARLINGTON, Ohio — Mary Maleda Thomas, 92, of rural Arlington, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at her residence.

Mary was born on May 12, 1921, to the late Harry and Pearl (Preston) George in Jackson Township, Hancock County.

She married Maurice A. Thomas on Dec. 23, 1943, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1982.


Mary is survived by her children: Linda (Clayton) Weber of Westerville, Ohio, Tom (Connie) Thomas of rural Arlington, Kathy (Allan) Latta of Arlington, Patricia (Donald) Walters of rural Arlington, and Phyllis (Mark) Matthews of Van Wert, Ohio; brother, Harold (Betty) George of Arcadia; sister, Ruth Ann (John) Steen of Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-granddaughter.

Mary was also preceded in death by her son: Larry Thomas, brother: Earl “Pete” George, and by sister: Florence Huntley.

Mary was a 1939 graduate of Vanlue High School. She was a homemaker and member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Arlington, and a member of the WSCS of the church. She was also a member of the Delaware Twp. Extension Homemakers and loved to read, sew, and do word search puzzles.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Arlington, where visitation will be for one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Pastor Alphonse H. Schnipke will officiate and burial will follow in Houcktown Cemetery, Jackson Township, Hancock County.

Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Arlington, and or the charity of the donor’s choice.
