VAN WERT, Ohio — Mary Jean Lautzenheiser, 85, of Van Wert, died at 11:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Vancrest of Van Wert, Van Wert.

She was born May 21, 1929, in Paulding County, Ohio, to the late Connie (Rhodes) Cordray and Edward R. Cordray. Her stepmother, Ethel (Brandt) Cordray, also preceded her in death.

Her husband, George Lautzenheiser, preceded her in death. They married Dec. 13, 1947, in Defiance, Ohio.


Survivors include her children: Dr. Thomas E. (Nancy) Lautzenheiser of Van Wert, and Tamara J. (Gary) Nihiser of Van Wert, grandchildren: Michele L. Lautzenheiser of Fairbanks, Alaska, Jennifer (Jordan) Klutka of Sterling, Virginia, Kathryn L. Lautzenheiser of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Melissa N. Nihiser of Van Wert, and Heather N. Nihiser of Fishers, Indiana, and two great-grandchildren: Jayden Nihiser and Noah Klutka.

She had taught for a total of 44 years. She taught at Blue Creek School, Lincolnview School, and retired from Crestview. She also worked at National Seal in Van Wert for 18 years.

She was a member of North Union United Methodist Church in Van Wert. She was also a member of Convoy Research Club, formerly a member of the Van Wert Eastern Star, and a member of the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Greg Wack will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point, Ohio.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Van Wert Red Cross or Salvation Army.
