VAN WERT, Ohio — Martin “Marty” T. McDonough II, 89, of Van Wert,
passed away on Jan. 12, 2014, at 4:43 a.m. at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice
Center, Van Wert.
Marty was born on the 4th of July, 1924 in
Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the oldest son of the late Martin T. McDonough
and Bertha (Fey) McDonough.
Marty was a proud member of the US Air Force and flew in the B29 Superfortress (in the Pacific) during WWII.
Marty married Betty J. (Deer) in 1947 and moved “out West” to Van
Wert after graduating watchmaking school where he worked as a jeweler
and repaired watches for many years, at what later became Laudick’s
Jewelry and, later, in his own business.
Marty also known as
“Mac,” is survived by his wife, Betty and their four children: Sharon
Hoyng of Gastonia, N.C., Marty McDonough of Groveport, Ohio, Michael
(Luann) McDonough and Dan (Cheryl) McDonough of Van Wert. Nine
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive.
Marty was preceded in death by his sister: Loretta Curran and brother: Jack McDonough.
was active in many community organizations over the years including
United Way, Toastmasters, Civic Theater, Jaycees, Elks, Van Wert Peony
parade and was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church,
Van Wert. Marty was also a member of the Van Wert American Legion Post
Marty was known for wearing floppy hats and his patriotic red, white and blue suspenders.
