CELINA, Ohio — Martha “Marti” Chapin, 78, of Celina, died at 7:35 p.m. April 7, 2014, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
She was born Feb. 27, 1936, in Neosho, Mo., to the late William S. and Etha Gladys Canada Brown.
Dec. 10, 1955, she married her first husband, Don L. Baker. He preceded
her in death on June 29, 1968. On Sept. 2, 1978, she married Rev.
Stanley Chapin. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1995.
Survivors include a son: Brent L. (Cynthia) Baker of New Port Richie,
Fla.; two stepsons: Stan R. (Rhonda) Chapin II of Celina and William D.
(Heather) Chapin of Portland, Ore.; two stepdaughters: Deborah (David)
Donnerberg of Troy, Mont., and Cynthia (Norman) Beach of Arlington,
Ohio; a brother: Samuel D. Brown of Van Wert; a sister: Margaret (James)
Wiseman of Van Wert; 11 grandchildren: George (Brenda) Baker, Jacob
(Amanda) Donnerberg, Nicole Baker, Hannah (Garrett) Detrich, Mark
Ransdell, Jacqueline Beach, Alexandria Chapin, Augustine Chapin, Jordan
Chapin, Erik (fiance: Jennifer) Chapin and Theodora Chapin, and seven
She was preceded in death by a brother: Charles H. Brown.
1954 graduate of Van Wert High School, she worked for Ohio Power Co. in
Van Wert, and was executive secretary for the Celina Area Chamber of
Commerce. She attended First Presbyterian Church, Celina.
will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev.
Kae Merold will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul’s United Church of
Christ Cemetery. Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the
