Lelan D. Cook, 80, of Van Wert, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013 at 11:20 p.m. at Van Wert Manor in Van Wert, Ohio.

He was born June 1, 1933 in Parma, Michigan to William Herman and Mary Belle (Swift) Cook. He married Margaret L. Thomas on Aug. 30, 1958. She survives in Van Wert.

He is also survived by a son: Duane L. Cook of Clyde, Ohio; and a daughter: Michele L. Griffin of Sardinia, Ohio; three grandchildren: Brian Griffin, and Madison and Jaden Cook; and a brother: Maynard Cook of LeCanto, Florida.

A sister died ininfancy.

He had retired from Eaton (Aeroquip) and was supervisor of the drafting department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as usher, church treasurer, and trustee, and a member of Rolling Sams Camping Club.

He graduated from East Jackson High School and Jackson Junior College, both of Jackson, Michigan.

Services will be held Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Van Wert. Pastor Steve Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert with military rites at the gravesite by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F.W. Post of Van Wert.

Friends may call at Cowan & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Preferred memorials are to the First Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
