DELPHOS, Ohio — Helen M. Holdgreve, 94, of Delphos, died at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at Van Wert Manor.

She was born June 16, 1919, in Ft. Jennings, to the late Victor and Emma (Rode) Calvelage.

She was united in marriage to Raymond J. Holdgreve on July 3, 1940. He preceded her in death in July 15, 1996.


She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and CL of C. She was a housewife.

Survivors include three sons: Edwin (Marilyn) Holdgreve and Jim (Kathy) Holdgreve, both of Delphos, and Donald (Lynnette) Holdgreve of Van Wert; two daughters: Mary Jane (Tom) Osting of Delphos and Eileen (Howard) Klaus of Venedocia; a brother: Robert “Mike” Calvelage of Scottsdale, Arizona; two sisters-in-law: Elda Calvelage and Henrietta Calvelage; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Wilfred, Tom, and Leonard Calvelage, two sisters: Viola Pohlman and Lucille Bowden, and a granddaughter-in-law: Peggy Osting.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. David Reinhart will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014, from 2-8 at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. A parish wake will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
