VENEDOCIA, Ohio — Dwight B. Rhoades, 90, of rural Venedocia, York
Township, died 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at Van Crest Health Care
Center, Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born Oct. 23, 1923, in York Township, Van Wert County, to the late Ada Mary Jones and Alonzo Rhoades.
His wife, Marjorie J. (Knittle), survives. They were married Nov. 22, 1945.
Other survivors include a son: Steve M. (Sammie) Rhoades of Findlay,
Ohio; daughters: Mary (Charles) Brenner of Zanesville, Ohio, and Carol
(Marty) Sullins of Nashville, Tenn.; brother: John M. (Phyllis) Rhoades
of Waynesboro, Va.; seven grandchildren: Chad (Kristin), Kerrie (Jeff),
Stephanie, Kevin, Kyle (Alyson), Katie (Zach), Adam (Kate), and nine
great-grandchildren: Gavin, Jackson, Parker, Lily, Reese, Kieran,
Madeline, Otto and Elin.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Paul W. Rhoades, and a sister: Thelma Rhoades.
was a lifetime farmer, salesman and worked for Elgin Service Center. He
was a member of Salem United Presbyterian Church where he had served as
elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a 1941 graduate of York High
School, a member of the Venedocia Lion’s Club and had received his
45-year Chevron pin. He was a great humorist and loved his grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. He was an avid euchre player.
will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Salem United
Presbyterian Church, Venedocia. The Rev. Tom Emery will officiate.
Burial will be in Venedocia Cemetery, Venedocia.
hours are Friday from 2 - 4 and 5 - 8 p.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral
Home, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorial is CHP Hospice or Salem United Presbyterian Church.
