SCOTT, Ohio — Doyle D. Whitaker of Scott died at 2:07 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Delphos Vancrest Nursing Home.

He was born Nov. 5, 1936, in Scott, Ohio, the son of Llewllyn and Blanche (Harmon) Whitaker, both of whom are deceased. On March 20, 1990, he married Nancy Williamson who survives in Scott.

Also surviving are four stepchildren: Tom and Angie Whitaker of Hoagland, Indiana, Tonda (Bill) Hawk of Van Wert, Susie (Neil) Blackmore of Payne and Babette (Makoto) Kurita of Houston, Texas, a sister: Anna Jean Bigelow of Scott, and 10 stepgrandchildren.


Doyle was a lifelong resident of Scott and was a tool and die maker at Dana Weatherhead. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958 and participated in testing the atomic bomb in Operation Redwing. He was also a life member of the Eagles.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be at a later date to be announced.
