VAN WERT, Ohio — Dave “Salty” Horner, 71, of Van Wert, died at 11:55
p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van
He was born May 11, 1942, in Indianapolis, Ind., to the late Mary K. (Caldwell) and Ward L. Horner.
His former companion, Donella Lynn Cornelius, died Sept. 17, 2003.
Survivors include a son: Josh Horner; sisters: Susan Jane Tomberlin
and Mary Lou Roby, both of St. Marys, Ohio; brother: Bill Joe (Evelyn)
Stephenson of Spencerville, Ohio; stepdaughters: Michele Contreras and
Lisa Kline, both of Van Wert, Christy Kline of Indiana, Kimberly (Josh)
Bates of Van Wert, Casey Cornelius of Paulding; stepson: Rory Bigelow of
Grover Hill; 11 stepgrandchildren, and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Ward Horner and John Horner, and a sister: Janna Taylor.
He retired in 1996 from the Van Wert O.D.O.T. Garage.
He enjoyed the woods and hunting as well as riding his bike.
He attended St. Marys Memorial High School.
He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Cowan & Son
Funeral Home, Van Wert. The Rev. James C. Burns of Liberty Baptist
Church will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the combined
honor guard of the V.F.W. 5803 and American Legion Post 178 of Van Wert
following the service.
Calling is 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is to the family.
