SUN CITY CENTER, Florida — Clayton Eugene Springer, 88, of Sun City Center, FL, formerly of Van Wert and Mendon passed away at 6 a.m., Saturday July 26, 2014 in Sun City Center, FL
He was born January 3, 1926 in Mercer County, OH to Elza Clayton Springer and Stella M. (Baucher) Springer who are both deceased. On September 25, 1949, he married Margaret L. (Ries) who survives.
He is also survived by daughters: Karen Yvonne Springer, Sun City Center, and Marvelene Kay (John) McClure New Holland, PA.; three grandchildren: Stephen R. (Kathy Mast) McClure of Ephrata, PA, and their children, Caleb, Kaylee, David McClure, Laurie K. McClure of Lititz, PA, Angela K. (Jason) Horning of Lancaster, PA and their son, Davin Horning; sisters-in-law: Imogene Springer of Chesterfield, MO, Marilyn Springer of Chula Vista, CA, Ruth Reed of Grover Hill, and Leah Ries of Van Wert.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Carl F. Springer and Wayne C. Springer; sister: Betty M. (Springer) Fent; and by in-laws: William and Lola Ries, Homer Reed, Wanda and Henry Prior, R. Wayne Ries, Paul E. and Rita Ries.
He retired in 1982 as farmer for 21 years and 26 years from Continental Can Co. (Grief Bros.) In Van Wert. He was a member of Grace Bible Church in Van Wert and graduated from Mendon-Union High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II and earned the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Veterans Club of Sunoco.
Services will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Grace Bible Church in Van Wert with Pastor Lance Hostetler officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
