VAN WERT, Ohio — Claude L. (Joe) Powell, 79, of Van Wert, died at 1:50 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born Dec. 23, 1934, in Marion, Ind., to the late Claude and Gertrude (Davis) Powell. He married Mary J. Wallen on Oct. 24, 1961.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. He was a true outdoorsman. He was a truck driver for over 45 years. He was in the army having served from 1953-1956 during the Korean War.

Survivors include his sons: Daryl A. (Debbie) Powell of Rochester, Ind., Claude L. (Sherry) Powell, Jr. and Ray A. (Amanda) Powell, both of Van Wert; three daughters: Deborah K. Stewart of Findlay, Ohio, Pamela S. Fackler of Van Wert, Cynthia J. Lewis of Celina, Ohio; sister: Donna (Don) Hoke of Marion, Ind.; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son: Kevin L. Powell; three brothers: John, Earl, and Robert; three sisters: Rosemary, Claudean, and Mildred, and a granddaughter: Amanda Powell.

Services will be held Monday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. The Rev. Russ Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be Monday, March 17, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
