VAN WERT, Ohio — Carol Gribler, 81, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 28, 2017, at her residence in Van Wert.

She was born on Jan. 27, 1936, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Bernard W. and Lucy C. (Heckman) Unterbrink. She was married to James K. Gribler who preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 2007.

Survivors include her daughter, Renee (Marvin Stripe) Hartman of Van Wert; a son, Grant Goodwin of Van Wert; her Finnish son, Kari Leppänen; a stepson, Steve (Vicki) Gribler of Dayton; three grandsons, Justin (Alexa) Goodwin, Evan Goodwin, and Logan Goodwin; a step-granddaugher, Ayrin Gribler; two sisters, Julianne (Roger) Hoersten of Sidney and Beradette Poling of Powell, Ohio; a brother, Ralph (Denise) Unterbrink of Washington state; a sister-in-law, Joyce Unterbrink; and many nieces and nephews

Carol was preceded in death by five brothers, Donald, Walter, Al, Louis and Linus Unterbrink, and two sisters, Victoria Rhoades and Ruth Putman.

Carol was a 1954 graduate of Van Wert High School and had worked as a cashier at Pangles Market, Cardinal Foods and WalMart. She enjoyed team bowling at Olympic Lanes. She was especially proud of her grandsons.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home. There will be calling hours Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will follow at a later date at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the donor’s choice.
