CONVOY, Ohio — Bonnie (Christener) Burger, 87, of Convoy, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at her residence.

She was born on Friday, March 7, 1930, in Adams County, Indiana, the daughter of the late John Christener and the late Della (James) Christener. She married John M. Burger on May 23, 1948, in Zanesville, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1992.

Bonnie was a 1948 graduate of Monroe High School and was employed at Walmart in Decatur from 1991 to 2016. She had also worked at Decatur Industries and International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

She was a member of Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert, Ohio, where she had previously served on the Ministry Administration Council, taught Sunday school, and was active in the Ladies Fellowship Circle. Bonnie went on several church work trips and worked in the food pantry at her church. She was also a life member of the United Brethren Missionary Society.

She loved the Chicago Cubs and enjoyed going to all of her grandchildren’s sporting events. Bonnie was known as a great cook, especially homemade cookies, noodles and hoagies. She loved to entertain at home and enjoyed her card parties.

Survivors include four sons, Lester M. (Pam) Burger of Coldwater, Michigan, Mark A. (Laura) Burger of Rockford, Ohio, Ray A. (Rochelle) Burger of Ohio City, Ohio, and David A. (Brenda) Burger of Van Wert; three daughters, Louann M. (Doug) Corbin of Lyons, Colorado, Linda M. (Ben) Wurm and Lanetta M. Heller, both of Decatur, Indiana; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mark Heller; two brothers, John and Roger Christener; and a sister, Marie Christener.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Trinity Friends Church located at 605 N. Franklin St. in Van Wert with Pastor Greg Rice officiating. Interment will follow in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery in Convoy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials are to Trinity Friends Church or Convoy EMS.
