VAN WERT, Ohio — James R. “Dick” Ringwald, 68, of Van Wert, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 28, 2014, at his residence.

He was born March 14, 1945, in Van Wert, to Virginia (Johnson) Ringwald, who survives in Delano, Minn., and the late John Ringwald.

His wife, Jean (Zirkle) Ringwald, survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include a son: David Ringwald of Belvidere, Ill., and sisters: Gloria (Larry) Schwartz and Becky Rase, both of Spencerville, Ohio, and Kathryn (James) Adams of Delano, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Tena Louise McDaniel.

He retired from Chrysler in Toledo, Ohio. Prior to that, he had worked at Chrysler Amplex, Van Wert. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Van Wert. He was current deacon of the church, a member of the Toledo UAW, a veteran of Vietnam in the US Army, and a member of the Van Wert American Legion Post. A 1964 graduate of Spencerville High School, he loved to ride his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, fishing and visiting with friends at every morning coffee.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Hal Shafer will officiate. Burial will be in Venedocia Cemetery, Venedocia, Ohio. Military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Van Wert American Legion and VFW Posts.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the funeral home.
