DELPHOS, Ohio — James E. Dray, 74, of Delphos, died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Delphos, to the late Charles Elmer and Mary (Rupert) Dray.
He was united in marriage to Freeda Faye (Workman) Dray on Aug. 9, 1958. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2005.
He was an avid fisherman, even doing some charter work on Lake Erie.
He also enjoyed to golf. His latest passion was making sure fallen
soldiers graves were properly marked, and would go to great lengths to
make sure that happened!
He was a member of the Hope Lodge 214,
Walnut Grove Cemetery Board, a life member of the VFW 3035, and Van Wert
County Sheriffs Auxiliary.
He was a law officer in Delphos in
1968 as a juvenile officer. He also worked at Van Wert County Sheriff’s
Office, was Chief of Police in Ohio City then he went back to Van Wert
County, where he retired. He has also worked security for Scot Lad
He was an Army veteran, serving in Korea from 1958-1961.

J. Dray of Delphos; a daughter: Cheryl Dray of Delphos; three sisters:
Caroline Weichart, Marge Hummer, and Romaine Pavel, all of Delphos; a
brother: John Dray of Delphos; five grandchildren, and nine
He was preceded in death by three sisters:
Lillian, Rosemary, and Charlotte, and four brothers: Harold, Gene,
David, and Walter Dray.
Services will be on Monday, March
24, 2014, at noon at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. The Rev.
David Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery
with military grave rites conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Visitation will be on Sunday 23, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held on Sunday.
