ROCKFORD - The Rockford village council met on Tuesday night and organized for 2014 by swearing in new members, appointing a president, and announcing committee assignments.

After new members John Dooley, Steve Gehle, and Gene Steiner were sworn into office by Mayor Amy Joseph, officer assignments were accepted. Steiner will serve as Council President in 2014. Committee assignments were made as follows:

-Service Committee: Greg Pontsler – Chair, Steve Gehle, Chris Heitkamp

-Safety Committee: Gary Fox – Chair, Chris Heitkamp, Greg Pontsler

-Utilities Committee: Steve Gehle – Chair, Gene Steiner, John Dooley

-Economic Development: Gene Steiner – Chair, John Dooley, Steve Gehle

-Rules Committee: John Dooley – Chair, Greg Pontsler, Gary Fox

-Finance Committee: Chris Heitkamp - Chair, Gary Fox, Gene Steiner

Council was also brought up to date on progress with the new village website. All council members and village employees were asked to report to the village office on February 4 where photographs will be taken for the site. Village badges will also be updated at that time.

The village has reached an agreement with Parkway Schools to utilize their text and email alert system. Area residents who want to receive updates are encouraged to go to the Parkway website ( and click on the “Parent Links.” Then go to the Parkway Local School text/email alerts icon followed by the Ohio Alerts subscriber/ unsubscriber listing. The website then will ask for contact information. Residents may sign up to receive school alerts, sports alerts, and Rockford village alerts.

The village also passed Resolution 01-14 which called for the authorization for the village administrator to sign a note with the Peoples Holding Company, Inc. for the Parkway utility project and the Front Street improvement project. The resolution passed, 4-0.
