ROCKFORD – This year’s Rockford Community Days is going to take on an artistic twist when it unveils at Shane Park this Friday and Saturday.

Village Clerk Lisa Kuhn said that a new touch to this year’s event will be the involvement of Lake Area Arts Group. From 6-9 p.m. on Friday evening, there will be exhibits and demonstrations representing the group in both park community buildings.

The group, which focuses on artist talent around the Grand Lake St. Mary’s area, is seeking to encourage and inspire creativity in the area, especially among young people.

The group’s objectives include providing appreciation of visual arts, displaying works of area artists, providing opportunities for youth and providing inspiration for beginners and professionals.

On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Parkway alumni Todd Buschur will be present in Shane Hall to display his works of acrylic and oil paintings, which will also be on sale. During that time, he will be painting a couple of original paintings throughout the duration of Community Days.

Buschur will also be making an appearance in Shane Hall from 6-9 p.m. on Friday.

“Currently, I am the sole art teacher at Graham High School,” said Buschur. “Because of this I teach many types of mediums and techniques of art. However, I am mainly an oil and acrylic painter professionally.”

An additional art event includes, “Paint with Artist Jane Perry,” which begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Another popular event this year will be the 24th Annual Cruise In/Car Show, commented Kuhn. Registration for the show will be held between 4-7 p.m. on Friday. Awards will be presented at 8:45 p.m.

Friday’s activities will wrap up with a fireworks display at 10 p.m. north of the community building. All proceeds from Friday’s events will go to support WRKD Rockford Radio.

Some of Saturday’s main events will include a new “escape room” from 6-10 p.m. This event comes from the Great Escape Game in Dayton. At 4 p.m. on Saturday will be the annual festival parade. Other Saturday highlights include Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers at the log cabin, homes of Ohio’s Edge Realty and the annual Fox Family Ride for Autism.

At noon, the rides, quarter auction and beer trailer opens. During the afternoon, there will be a Rockford Chamber of Commerce face-paint fundraiser and Parkway Drama Club presenting musical show tunes. Other musical presentations include George Moore in the Pavilion from 5-7 p.m. and the Muddsock Band from 8-midnight.

Kuhn noted that Rockford Community Garage Sales will be in full swing both Friday and Saturday.
