VAN WERT — The YMCA of Van Wert County’s Summer Camp schedule is out
and all ages 6-12 may register. While your kids enjoy a great summer
full of fun and activities you can enjoy the tax benefit of a child care
expense. There is a great list of weekly activities planned, including:
WEEK 1: June 9 - 13 FLOAT MY BOAT
kid favorite is a sampler of local on-the-water activities. Kids love
being able to experience the different boats, and will come home with a
solid foundation of boating skills and a new found passion for boating.
These skills will be used on their outdoor adventure to the Auglaize
WEEK 2: June 16 - 20 GAMER CAMP
This popular and
interactive gaming camp will get the heart jumping as they compete in
tournaments, dance-offs and share their expertise with 8 different
gaming systems available. The camp then moves to the water and outdoors
each day as they enjoy some fun in the sun!
WEEK 3: June 23 - 27 BUILD ME UP
This camp is full of team
building activities and initiative games designed to help groups develop
confidence & leadership skills. During this camp you ascend the 35
foot climbing wall and conquer the zip line!
WEEK 4: July 7 - 11 THE GREAT OUTDOORS
to embark on an adventure in the great outdoors? Spend the week in
nature exploring the art of hunting, fishing, archery and identification
of animal and plant life right here in Camp Clay’s backyard.
WEEK 5: July 14 -18 SURVIVOR CAMP
a survivor! This camp introduces the campers to basic camping skills
while connecting kids with the wonder of the world around them. We do
this through stories, hands-on skills like fire-making, compass reading,
shelter building, and hikes. These skills will be used to build their
own onsite primitive camp site!
WEEK 6: July 21 - 25 WATER WORKS 1
into camp with a Splash! Each day the campers will be splashing the day
away while visiting local pools and water parks! This camp is designed
for the campers to make great childhood memories while enjoying the
WEEK 7: July 28 - August 1 BARNYARD ANIMAL CAMP
week the campers will have a WILD time as they visit local farms
hosting a variety of animals with the week ending with a trip to the Ft.
WEEK 8: August 4 - 8 ACTIVE X SPORTS CAMP
Galore! This camp is all about the skills– The Main Stage features a
visit to the Fort Wayne Tin Caps Stadium & Mad Ants Field house!
WEEK 9: August 11 -15 WATER WORKS 2
camp is so popular we revisit our favorite watering holes for some more
fun in the sun with trips to our local pools & water parks.
WEEK 10: August 18 - 22 SPACE CAMP
Blast off! This camp features a sleep over at Camp Clay with a visit to
the Neil Armstrong Museum where all will explore the stars and outer
Each camp runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with
pick up and drop off at Camp Clay. The weekly rates are $70 for Van
Wert Y members and $110 for potential (non) Y members. Did you know The
American Camp Association, which accredits more than 2400 camps
nationwide, reports the weekly cost of day camp averaged about $300
while an overnight camp averaged about $690?

safe, affordable and fun day camp for elementary school kids that offer a
host of activities to entice everyone’s interest, in an atmosphere that
reinforces the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.”
Clint Myers, Camp Clay facilitator stated.
Myers also commented on
a new program called the Counselor in Training (CIT) program. “This
program is for teens ages 13-17 that would like to shadow our Day Camp
leaders to develop and practice leadership skills through hands-on
interaction with younger children and develop professional reference for
college or the job market. This program is $115 for the entire summer
with the option to do as much or as little as you would like.”
