In recent months, law enforcement officials have been made aware of an alleged “drug house” located at 221 Cherry Street Delphos, Van Wert County, Ohio. Due to this, agents from the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force began an investigation into this residence. The investigation culminated today at approximately 10:42 a.m. when task force members, along with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office Swat Team, served a search warrant at this location.

Seized from the residence was drug paraphernalia, a small amount of suspected marijuana and pharmaceutical substances that have yet to be identified.

Task force members encountered two dogs which were thought to be aggressive. The dogs were not harmed, but they were caged while the home search was made. The Van Wert County Dog Warden’s office responded to the scene to assist.

There were two adults inside the residence when the warrant was served. No arrests were made, but the case will be forwarded to the Van Wert County Prosecutor’s office. The names of those inside will not be released unless they are formally charged.

However, the living conditions at the house were deemed unsuitable for the juvenile who lives there. Van Wert County Children’s Service were called and an investigation into the unsanitary living conditions and suspected drug activity at the home. In addition a nuisance abatement letter will be sent to the property owner to notify the owner as to what is occurring there. The letters are designed to make property owners aware of alleged illegal activity and to try to get the owners to take actions to get that activity to stop. The law does allow for the seizure of the property if the owner knowingly permits illegal activity to continue in the home.

The West Central Ohio Crime Task Force is made up of officers from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Lima Police Department, Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and several other state and federal agencies. This task force operates within a multi-county area to combat drugs and major crimes.
