ROCKFORD — Father’s Day Weekend once again brings three days of celebration in the Village of Rockford. The festival celebrates the groups and organizations within that community with proceeds being put back into improvements at Shane’s Park, which provides recreation for the entire community of more than 1,100 people.

Weather forecasts look beautiful for the weekend. Events begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. as the various garage sales across the village open for bargain hunters. Classic car lovers will be in their element between 5-8:30 p.m. with the 20th annual Cruise-In Car Show on Market St. Registration begins for that show at 4 p.m. The entertainment stage will be active Friday night with Rockford’s own Kaela (Gardner) Kinney from 5:30-7 p.m. and Pete Schlegel playing and singing from 8 p.m. - midnight. At 10, the celebration takes to the skies with the annual fireworks display.

The games begin at 6 p.m. as action in the baseball and softball tournaments start. The volleyball tournament fires up Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and the Rockford Chamber Fun Challenge starts registration at the same time. The Challenge pits two-person teams against one another as they race from location to location completing various challenges before the competition.



If you are looking for a good competition, grab your wiener dog and sign up beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday for the Wiener Dog Races. Races begin at 11 a.m. Beginning at 10 a.m. Kids can get ready for the Punt, Pass and Kick competition, which begins at 5 p.m. If you’d rather compete with your artistic skills, come sign up for the Chalk Walk. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and chalking will go on from 8 a.m. - noon. Kids can play all weekend on the inflatables with a wristband for just $10. A Sunday only wristband is only $5. Or you can see the exotic animals at Mark’s Ark Saturday from 12-3 p.m.

The Quarter Auction will be held at the Pavillion Saturday from 1-3 p.m. Then grab a seat for the parade which steps off at 4 p.m.

The evening will be busy with the Country Concert Karaoke Finals from 4:30-8 p.m., entertainment at the Rockford Belle starting at 7 p.m. with Shannon Wagner, Linda Youmans, Laura Puschel, and Olga Kipp among the entertainers. From 8 pm - midnight Nashville Recording Artists Kings Landing will play. On Saturday also look for the Frickers Wing Eating Contest, the Volunteer of the Year Award presentation, a youth co-ed kickball tourney, food vendors, garage sales, and a vendor and craft show.

Rockford Community Days wraps up on Father’s Day with a 10 a.m. church service followed by lunch at noon. Beginning at noon, try your luck with Dad on the archery range. Then at 2 p.m., it’s Reverse Raffle time at the Pavillion.
