VAN WERT — This weekend, the Van Wert Robotics Team is holding the 4th annual Northwest Ohio Qualifier Robotics competition. The opening ceremony begins at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday in the Van Wert High School gym. The event is free and will be featuring around 28 teams from nearby states.

Additionally, the Van Wert Robotics Team went to the SouthWestern, PA FIRST Tech State Qualifier in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, last Saturday. The team won four matches and lost three. They made it to semifinals but lost, and are the first alternate for the Pennsylvania state championships.

The first award the team won was the Motivate award. This award is given to the team who makes FIRST known throughout their school and community. Van Wert’s Robotics team earned the Motivate Award by inspiring other teams in Northwestern Ohio.

The team also earned third place for the Inspire award. To gain this award, the team must excel in all categories. Others are inspired by their efforts and work to be like them.

Finally, the Van Wert team was among the top three finalists for the Think award. This award is given to those who show every step of the design process with scientific and mathematical calculations.

The Van Wert Robotics team is excited to be competing next here in Van Wert.
