OHIO and INDIANA – Fifteen county spelling bee champions from northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio will compete at the 64th annual Journal Gazette Regional Spelling Bee presented by STAR Financial Bank on Saturday, March 3, at IPFW’s Rhinehart Music Center. Spelling will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Rhinehart Recital Hall.

The winner of the Regional Spelling Bee will represent The Journal Gazette and STAR Financial Bank at the 91st Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May. The winner will also receive a one-year subscription to Merriam-Webster Unabridged Online, The Samuel Louis Sugarman Award, and a one-year membership to Encyclopedia Britannica Online Premium.

The 2018 competitors are: Olivia Rhoades of Adams County, Erica Cho of Allen County, Marissa Sims of Defiance County, Riley White of Dekalb County, Ella Hall of Huntington County, Aditya Vaidy of Kosciusko County, Hailey Miller of LaGrange County, Isaac Warner of Noble County, Faith Meraz of Paulding, Alayna Shamp of Steuben County, Una VanWynsberghe of Van Wert, Evan Martynowicz of Wasbash, Jared White of Wells County, Maxwell McKinney of Whitley County, and Nicholas Roth of Williams County.

Students will be available for interviews at the end of the bee. The bee can be expected to end between 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The number of rounds will determine the length of the bee.
