Jubilee Flower Show Planning Committee meets

VAN WERT — The Van Wert County Jubilee Flower Show Committee met recently to confirm that the 53rd flower show will be held this year at the new location of Wassenberg Art Center at the Armory. This will be an excellent “central location” as it will be in the heart of the activities in conjunction with Peony Festival weekend. It will give many visitors a chance to see the Art Center in its new location for the first time.
The photo for the book cover will be last year’s best of show winner. Books will be printed later and available for pick up at Balyeat’s Coffee Shop. Posters will be distributed.
Set up date will be on June 6 at 1 p.m. Tear down will be on Sunday, June 8 at 4 p.m., promptly.
There will be the annual sales table - items will be needed from all clubs to generate income. Suggestions: planters, bulbs, plant any kind, flower pots, books, garden tools, baked goods, fresh garden fruits and vegetables.
Entries will be accepted on June 7 at 8 a.m. and close at 10:30 a.m. Entries will be received through the back door (east side) of the Art Center where there will be ample parking for dropping off flowers. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Hours for viewing the flower displays: Saturday from 1-5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Assigned duties to the local garden clubs are: Evergreen Garden Club will chair the show; Co-chair, Gardner’s of Van Wert County; Schedule, Representative of each club; Secretary, Marcia Davies; Treasurer, Linda Hoffman; Publicity, Cheryl Acheson, Linda Hoffman, and Paula Stemen; Clerks/Judges, Gardener’s of Van Wert County (Horticulture), Wren Garden Club (Artistic Design); Entries and classifications, Evergreen; Placement, Wren Garden Club; Hospitality, Evergreen Garden Club; Staging and Properties, Evergreen, Gardener’s of Van Wert County, and Wren Garden Club.
The Invitational theme this year will be “Memorial Day” which is opened to Van Wert County Garden clubs. Each entry will provide a card table for their display and it will be a traditional design.
