Donations accepted for troops in Afghanistan

VAN WERT — Van Wert and Paulding Counties of the American Red Cross are receiving items to send to U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
The Red Cross is collecting hard candy, Slim Jims/jerky (beef or turkey), granola bars, Rice Krispies treats, Little Debbie snack cakes, individual-sized cookies (no boxes of cookies), salty snacks, nuts, chips, pretzels, etc. (snack or individual size), crackers and cheese spreads (snack size).
All hygiene items are to be placed in a plastic Ziplock bag. Body wash (travel sized) soap - hand and bath, hand and body lotion (travel size), foot lotion/powder, lip balm, hand sanitizer (travel size), shaving cream, razors, and refills, sunscreen, deodorant, insect repellent, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mouthwash, flyswatters, DVD’s (movies), phone cards.
Items can be dropped off at the Van Wert office, 208 E. Main Street, Van Wert through July 29. Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and closed Friday.
