CONVOY — The Convoy Fire and EMS recently held its annual pancake and sausage breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 1, during one of the several snow storms which the county has seen this winter. However, the weather did not deter some nearly 1,100 people from coming out and supporting the event.

The fire dept. members and a few local volunteers from the community served up nearly a 1,000 pounds of whole hog sausage and used approximately some 12 -15 cases of pancake mix to feed the 1,100 people that came out and braved the snow.

So because of the great support we get from our community through donations and supporting our fundraisers, the members were able to raise $6,000 on pancake day. Besides eating pancakes and sausage, the crowd had the opportunity to support a bake sale that was being held to raise funds for the county smoke detector fund, No Child Sleeps Alone, currently being held in Van Wert City and County.

Along with the bake sale, there was a fire boot setting on the table for anyone wanting to give a monetary donation instead of getting a baked good. The bake sale, along with the boot, made a profit of $500.

The Convoy Fire Dept. members are very supportive of the smoke detector fund and decided to match the $500 that the bake sale made and make a donation in the amount of $1,000 to the county smoke detector fund.

The Convoy Fire and EMS would like to thank our great community for their support and all surrounding communities for the support that they show to each of their own fire and EMS departments.
