  • Gamble, Lichtensteiger named Junior Fair royalty

    The 2015 Van Wert County Fair got off to a start on Sunday evening with the Junior Fair King and Queen Coronation at the fairgrounds. This marked the 50th year for the coronation ceremony, and Van Wert senior Chloee Gamble, daughter of Greg and Keely Gamble, won the crown as queen and Travis Lichtensteiger was selected king.

  • Sheriff to promote method to monitor sex offenders
    This fair season the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office is featuring help for citizens wanting to receive alerts about registered sex offenders. Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach announced Monday that during this year’s fair, the Sheriff’s Office will, once again, be helping citizens register to receive an automatic email alert when a registered sex offender moves into an area near their home.

  • Murder charge dropped against Irish nanny in US girl's death

    A murder charge has been dropped against an Irish nanny accused of killing a 1-year-old girl in her care after a state medical examiner reversed a finding that the child's death was a homicide caused by shaken baby syndrome, prosecutors announced Monday.
