One killed in two-car crash

CELINA – A Fort Wayne, Indiana man died from injuries received in a two-car crash shortly before noon on Saturday on U.S. 33, just east of U.S. 127 in Mercer County.
According to Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey, Adam Hamilton, 26, died after the 2013 Nissan he was driving collided with a 2003 Volvo driven by Joshua Angel, 35, Fort Wayne. The accident report states that Hamilton was westbound on U.S. 33 and attempted to pass a tractor-trailer just west of the intersection with Palmer Rd. Angel was traveling eastbound with his wife Christine Angel, 34, and three children: Elijah, 4, Jonah, 5, and Isaac, 8.
Both drivers took evasive action. swerving into the ditch on the south side of the highway. The two cars collided in the ditch, deploying front and side impact air bags in each vehicle. All occupants were wearing seat belts.
Hamilton, the sole occupant of the Nissan, was taken to Van Wert Hospital and transferred by helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He did from his injuries shortly before 4:30 p.m.
The Angel family was taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Mary’s. Joshua and Christine Angel were then transferred by helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. No report on their condition was available.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mendon and Rockford fire departments, Rockford EMS, and Celina EMS. Members of MCERV handled the traffic detour. U.S. 33 was closed for nearly four hours Saturday afternoon.
